Final thought on U.S. elections
A foggy morning in Warsaw. It’s been a day filled with emotions. Yesterday, Trump won the U.S. election. The counting essentially wrapped up by dawn our time, and his lead was so overwhelming that no one is questioning the legality of the process. Just like that—it happened. Watching the reactions from Americans on the center-progressive-left side is striking. They talk about shame, the end of America, the wish to escape or hide somewhere. Some are even predicting a chain of events to come: the end of Palestine, Ukraine’s defeat, a direct threat to the Baltic states.
In this whole affair, the real winners are Trump himself and major entrepreneurs like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and others of their kind. Right-wing representatives from Poland have also seized the opportunity, dropped into America to preach their so-called "revealed truths" and conspiracy theories.
In these past few days, my faith in American big business has all but crumbled. I’ve noticed myself, almost subconsciously, pulling back my data from the U.S. It’s a lack of trust, or maybe an erosion of faith, toward information sources sponsored by Big Capital or social media controlled by players like Musk or Zuckerberg. As for Zuckerberg’s views, I know the least, but I don’t harbor many illusions.
